Yes. Every download includes 14 days of every Pro feature, starting the first time you open Penmarka. There's no card, key or account to enter. When the trial ends, Penmarka simply becomes Personal, which is free forever, unless you've entered a Pro license key.
Yes. The installer and the app are digitally signed by Vawick Consulting UG (haftungsbeschränkt), the company behind Penmarka, with a code-signing certificate issued after Microsoft verified our identity. To check it yourself, right-click Penmarka-Setup.exe → Properties → Digital Signatures: the signer should be Vawick Consulting UG (haftungsbeschränkt). Each release also publishes a SHA256 checksum next to the installer on our releases page. For a brand-new release, Windows SmartScreen may still show a prompt while the release builds up reputation — it names us as the publisher, so click More info → Run anyway. Prefer the Microsoft Store? Penmarka is also available there, using the same signed installer: get it from the Microsoft Store.
Whether you installed from our website or the Microsoft Store, download the latest version from penmarka.com/download and run Penmarka-Setup.exe. It installs over your current version and keeps your settings, drawings and license, so there's no need to uninstall first. If Penmarka is open, the installer asks you to close it. You can see what changed in each release in the Version History.
Yes. Penmarka is a free download in the Microsoft Store, the same signed app you get from penmarka.com, with the same 14-day Pro trial and free Personal plan. Pro and Team licenses are sold here on penmarka.com, not in the Store. To unlock Pro in a Store install, enter your key via ☰ → Enter License Key…. Right after a new release, the Store may still offer the previous version for a day or two; penmarka.com/download always has the newest one.
Yes. Drawing, screenshots, project files and presentation tools all run locally with no server round-trip. The only network calls Penmarka ever makes are Pro license checks: when you activate a key, and a short background re-check about once a day. If you're offline, Pro keeps working for 14 days after the last successful check; after that it pauses until you're back online, and comes back on its own.
Personal is limited to a single monitor. Pro removes that limit — the overlay spans your entire virtual desktop across dual, triple or ultrawide setups, including mixed-DPI displays, with live handling if you connect or disconnect a screen mid-session.
Yes — Penmarka is an always-on-top overlay window, so any screen-share tool that shares your desktop shows your annotations exactly as you see them, with no plugin or integration needed.
No. Screenshots, exports, project files and recordings (including your recorded voice) are written straight to your own disk. Penmarka has zero telemetry.
Your desktop, everything you draw over it, and your default microphone, saved together as one MP4 in Documents\Penmarka Recordings, with sound and picture kept in step. You can pause and resume; paused time is left out of the video. It records your microphone only, not system or app sound, and the microphone is used only while a recording is running. If no microphone is available, or Windows privacy settings block it, Penmarka tells you right away and records video only. The Recorder is part of Pro.
Penmarka is built to be light: measured cold start under a second and an idle memory footprint around 80MB on real hardware, with no measurable memory growth across thousands of draw/undo cycles in long sessions.
Yes. Penmarka itself installs anywhere for free, and every install gets the 14-day Pro trial. A Pro license key can be active on 2 computers at a time. To move it, open the toolbar menu (☰) → Penmarka Pro (Manage License…) on the old computer and remove it there, then enter the key on the new one. Need more seats? For 10 or more users, our Team plan covers every seat at €24.00 per seat per year — email support@penmarka.com.
Team is for organizations with 10 or more users: every seat gets all Pro features for €24.00 per seat per year. Email support@penmarka.com with the number of seats you need. We set up your license keys, send them to you, and invoice once for all seats. Each person enters their key in Penmarka via ☰ → Enter License Key…. To move a seat to a new computer, remove the key on the old one via ☰ → Penmarka Pro (Manage License…), or email us and we'll move it for you. Adding seats later works the same way.
